The
people of Abura-Akyempim in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region have
enstooled Thirty-two (32) years old Clement Arthur, as the new chief of the
town.
The
enstoolment, which took place at a colourful coronation ceremony in Abura over
the weekend, was attended by the Member of Parliament for the Ahanta West
Constituency, Hon George Kwame Aboagye, chiefs, the clergy, and representatives
of the Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL), among a host of other dignitaries.
The
chief, with the stool name, Okofo) Kwaku Mensah IV, succeeds his grandfather,
Okofo) Ghanteh Panyin II, who passed on to glory in October last year.
Outlining
his vision for the area, Okofo) Kwaku Mensah IV, said he is going to implement
a ten-year development plan to help bring massive developments to the people of
Abura-Akyempem.
According
to him, the plan will comprise the building a modern library and ICT Center to
help improve education and to equip the young ones with basic skills in
Information and Computer Technology.
He
assured teachers of the community’s support both within and outside the
classroom to enhance educational improvement in the area.
Nana
Kwaku Mensah IV added that the plan will also contain the upgrading of the
Abura Community Market to a larger one to help boost trading activities in the
area.
On
sanitation and health, Okofo) Kwaku mensah IV said he is going to facilitate
the construction of KVIPs to eradicate inconveniences that the lack of it has
been posing for the people of Abura, especially Dwen Nyame; a suburb of
Abura-Akyempim, and added that the Abura Health post will also be upgraded into
a Poly-Clinic to help pregnant women and the sick.
He
called for absolute unity amongst the people so they can together help to
develop the area, saying “we need to unite for the common purpose of
Abura-Akyempim’s development”.
He
urged both the youth and adults to respect each other since “respect is
reciprocal. And if I give you respect, I expect that you also do same”.
The
Member of Parliament for the Ahanta West Constituency, Hon George Kwame Aboagye
wished the new chief the best of luck to succeed on the stool, and added that
he hopes the chief will work with him to bring development to Abura.
He
said as the MP for the area, he will bring any good thing he comes across that
will inure to the benefit of the people of Abura.
“Nana,
I came here during the election year to plead with the people of Abura to help
me get to parliament so I can serve Ahanta. You did help me, and so if you call
me anytime I will come and if you send me too, I will go. And if I go and see
something that will be good for the people of Abura and Ahanta in general, I
will bring it”, Hon. Aboagye said.
