The plight of Sankor Day Senior High School

Sankor day Senior High School is one of the 200 community day senior high schools started by the NDC government.

The school is located in the Ahanta West District off the Sankor-Dixcove road.

My visit to the school reveals various issues contrary to what is in the public space.

The school is currently offering two courses; Business and General Arts, with a total population of 40 students and 11 teachers. The school, which is expecting new form one students in the next academic year, is having total of 24 class rooms. Out of these, only 3 are currently in use, with the rest in various stages of completion.

Most of the rooms are without tiles, windows, doors, electricity, fans and other basic necessities to support teaching and learning.

Speaking to ahantanews360, the Headmaster of the school registered his displeasure about the departure of the contractor who claims there is no money for him to continue the development. According to him, various reports have been filed at appropriate quarters, but to no avail.

The school is without ICT and Science laboratories. Some students who spoke to us were satisfied with teaching and learning, but pleaded to the government to get the contractor to back to work to complete the project.

Ahanta West District to get an Airport

The Ahanta West District is likely to host Western Region's second airport, the Aviation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah, has announced.

This came to light when the Minister, in the company of other Sector Ministers, visited Princess Town, a coastal community, on 7th June, to inspect the land which has been identified for the project.

Industry watchers say this will give a further boost to government's quest to open up Ghana to investors to massive improve the economy of  the country.

Madam Dapaah was accompanied her Deputy, Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah, the Minister for Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture, Catherine Ablema Afeku, and other officials from the two Ministries, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and the Ghana Airport Company.

In an interaction with Journalists after the visit, the Aviation Minister said the project which will cover an eight thousand (8000) acre land, will be a Public-Private-Partnership, or Build,Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) arrangement.

Madam Dapaah said "we're building a passenger inclined airport, and if I say passengers, I mean tourists, investors and for we, the Royal people of Ghana, to make sure we open up this country to foreign investors and tourists. This is in line with the vision of the President, to open up Ghana to investors."

She explained that the project will enhance the tourism potential and the development of the Western Region, aid the oil and gas industry and in effect, create employment opportunities for Ghanaians, especially the youth.

The Aviation Minister said due diligence would be done and the project would be properly executed adding that "we're going back to the drawing board for the technical people to discuss and analyse what we have seen so that the outcome will be beneficial to Ghanaians."

She pleaded with the Chief and Elders of Princess Town to release land to the Ministry and its stakeholders, when the time comes for the project to be executed.
