The
government of Ghana has finally followed through with its
promise of building two hundred (200) new Senior High Schools across the
country, with the official handing over of some of the sites to contractors for
work to begin.

West District which is one of the few districts to benefit from the project,
handed over its land to the Contractor, Saturday, 26th July, after a
short ceremony at the project site at Sangol) (Sankor) Junction.
The
short ceremony afforded officials of the Ministry f Education (MOE), and the
contractor to come and meet stakeholders in the district, and to officially
hand over the site to the contractor.
The
Contractor, Samcota Company Limited, based in Takoradi, is expected to complete
the project within eighteen (18) months of the day the site was handed over.

students in 2016.

project will consist of twenty-four (24) classrooms, four (4) laboratories, two
(2) libraries, washrooms and other facilities which will help in the running of
the school.

District Assembly, Hon Joseph Dofoyena, revealed that the school, which will
become the third senior high school in the district, was necessary because it
is going to help reduce the pressure on the existing schools by admitting
Junior High School graduates who cannot be absorbed by both Baidoo Bonsoe
Senior High Technical School and St. Marys Boys’ School.
Explaining
the reason behind decision to establish another senior high school, the DCE said
the district will in the future request for a tertiary institution but since
this is what was being proposed, they had to accept it.
According
to Hon Dofoyena, the Assembly is expecting the contractor to employ the local
people, especially the youth, to help in the constructions works, adding that “it
won’t be proper for the contractor to cart workers from other places to work in
our district, when we can get the same workforce here.”
He
stated that stakeholders of the project are expecting it to be completed within
the planned period to enable the President’s vision of putting up two hundred (200)
new schools by the end of his four years in office, become a reality.
